Kaelan Deese says Epstein release is a ‘double win’ for GOP

The article from the Washington Examiner discusses the recent release of files by the House Oversight Committee related to the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Justice department reporter Kaelan Deese described the release as a “double win” for Republicans, as the documents do not appear to contain any major new evidence or “smoking gun” that might lead to indictments of additional parties. Among the released materials was Epstein’s 50th birthday book, which includes various personal notes, one of which is signed by President Donald Trump, even though Trump denies that he wrote it.The released files follow a previous batch of 33,000 pages published the week before. The committee, led by Republicans, is seen as making a good faith effort by releasing the documents transparently, but the revelations so far have not uncovered anything substantially new.Additionally, Trump is suing Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp for reporting on one of the birthday book notes prior to its official release.

Kaelan Deese says latest Epstein release is a ‘double win’ for Republicans

Washington Examiner’s Justice Department Reporter Kaelan Deese predicted that the lack of a “smoking gun” in the files released by the House Oversight Committee will be a “win” for the GOP.

Late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was the center of a flurry of files received by the committee Monday. Among the files was Epstein’s birthday book from the year he turned 50.

“It doesn’t seem as of now that there’s going to be any sort of big smoking gun revelations that are going to lead to potential indictments towards third parties or things like that,” Deese said on LiveNOW from FOX Monday.

Monday’s release followed the committee’s first from last week, which saw the committee release 33,000 files.

“So, I think that, you know, we’re reaching a point where the Oversight Committee — particularly the fact that it’s led by Republican leadership — the fact that they were willing to put this out so forthright is actually sort of a double win for them,” Deese said. “I think that we’re seeing a good faith effort but nothing really new being shown to us.”

One note bears the signature of President Donald Trump, but Trump denies it is his writing. The note is written in third person and includes a drawing of the silhouette of a woman.

Trump is suing Rupert Murdoch and his company NewsCorp for reporting on the note before it was released to the committee.
