‘Mississippi Hunters Make History with Record-Breaking Gator Capture in ‘Jurassic World”
The Epic Battle for the Biggest Alligator in Mississippi
Prepare to be amazed by the incredible story of four fearless hunters who embarked on an all-night battle to capture the largest alligator ever officially caught in the state of Mississippi.
Our adventure begins with alligator hunter Donald Woods of Oxford, Mississippi, who set out on the Yazoo River on August 25, accompanied by his brave friends: Joey Clark of Jackson, Will Thomas of Madison, and Tanner White of Flora. These seasoned hunters had encountered 12-foot alligators before, but they were about to face a challenge unlike any other.
As the sun set, the hunters eagerly ventured into the water, filled with anticipation. The night was calm, and they spotted numerous alligators, but their sights were set on something much grander. Woods confidently declared, “We’ve been hunting these things a long time. We’ve killed a lot of 12-footers.”
Then, it happened. They caught sight of an enormous alligator, a true behemoth. Woods vividly recalls, “We knew he was wide. His back was humongous. It was like we were following a jon boat.”

Woods and his companions engaged in a fierce battle with the alligator, hooking it at around 9 p.m. The struggle lasted for hours, with the alligator repeatedly breaking their rods and escaping their grasp. It seemed unstoppable, cunningly maneuvering under logs and staying in the same spot. Woods admitted, “There was no moving him. He dictated everything we did.”
As the night wore on, their equipment became unusable, but the alligator’s strength began to wane. By 4 a.m., the exhausted hunters managed to hoist the massive creature into their boat.
Overwhelmed by their triumph, Woods exclaimed, “We just knew we had a big alligator. We were just amazed at how wide his back was and how big the head was. It was surreal, to tell you the truth.”
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Alligator Program coordinator, Andrew Arnett, officially measured and weighed the gator. It measured an astonishing 14 feet, 3 inches and weighed a whopping 802.5 pounds.
Reflecting on their extraordinary feat, Woods jokingly declared, “We’re done with chasing big ones this year. I might even call it a career after that, honestly.”
The awe-inspiring image of the alligator sparked a wave of excitement on social media, with one woman comparing it to a “Jurassic World! TRex without legs!!!”
