Joy Behar’s AR-15 Opinion: Shooting Deer Example Shows Ignorance
If You Were a Video Game Aficionado in the Early 2000s, You Know the Controversy
Nearly two decades later, the question still lingers: Do violent shooter video games contribute to real-world violence? While the answer remains unclear, one thing is certain – these games have had an impact on society, just not in the way that fear-mongers would have you believe.
Let’s take a look at “The View” co-host Joy Behar as an example.
It’s not clear where Behar stands on the debate of violent media versus violent behavior, but what is clear is that her perception of real life has been greatly influenced by violent media.
This lack of understanding was on full display during a recent episode of “The View” when the panel discussed the tragic Maine mass shooter.
Watch the segment below and see if you can spot the moment where Behar goes off the deep end:
As expected from a far-left program like “The View,” the conversation quickly turned into the usual bashing of the Second Amendment that we’ve come to expect from leftists after any senseless shooting.
But Behar took it a step further by attempting to illustrate the dangers of the AR-15 with a completely nonsensical explanation that you have to hear to believe.
When co-host Sara Haines mentioned the use of guns for hunting, Behar ignorantly interjected, ”But also if you shoot with an AR-15, let’s say you shoot a deer, you can’t eat it. Because you basically demolished the animal.”
Now, if we were in a fictional world like the movies “Die Hard” or ”John Wick,” or even in a video game like “Grand Theft Auto 5,” sure, maybe the deer would explode in a dramatic fashion. But in reality, an AR-15 might leave an exit wound on a deer, given the ammunition it uses. It’s far from the grenade launcher that Behar is making it out to be.
Now, you might think this is a minor detail not worth arguing over, but it’s important to call out the dishonesty of those who seek to infringe on our Second Amendment rights.
These individuals are using false and intentionally scary rhetoric to manipulate public opinion on the Second Amendment, and that should not be tolerated.
We should be open to having an honest and uncomfortable discussion about the Second Amendment, even if we ultimately disagree. But what we shouldn’t tolerate is the use of dishonest and despicable fear-mongering tactics with blatantly false information.

What role does the media play in perpetuating the narrative of “assault weapons” and “epidemics of gun violence”?
To manipulate public opinion and push their own agenda. By spreading misinformation about firearms, they are able to create a sense of fear and urgency, resulting in calls for stricter gun control laws.
It’s not just Behar who is guilty of this, though. The media as a whole has been complicit in perpetuating this narrative. Headlines screaming about “assault weapons” and “epidemics of gun violence” only serve to incite panic and further the agenda of those who wish to restrict our constitutional rights.
But what these fear-mongers fail to acknowledge is the fact that video games, including violent shooter games, have not been proven to directly cause real-world violence. Numerous studies have been conducted over the years, and the results have been inconclusive at best. While some studies have shown a correlation between violent video games and aggressive behavior, it’s important to note that correlation does not equal causation.
In fact, many experts argue that video games can have positive effects on individuals, such as improving cognitive skills, problem-solving abilities, and hand-eye coordination. Furthermore, the vast majority of video game enthusiasts do not exhibit violent tendencies in their everyday lives. They are able to distinguish between fantasy and reality, recognizing that what happens on the screen stays on the screen.
So why is there still a debate surrounding the impact of violent video games on real-world violence? The answer lies in politics and personal beliefs. It’s easier for politicians to scapegoat video games than to address the root causes of violence, such as mental health, poverty, and societal issues. Similarly, individuals who are opposed to gun ownership may use video games as a convenient target, deflecting attention away from the real issues at hand.
If we truly want to address the issue of violence in society, we need to have a meaningful and honest conversation. We need to look beyond the scapegoats and focus on evidence-based solutions. This means investing in mental health services, addressing socioeconomic disparities, and promoting responsible gun ownership.
To continue blaming video games for societal ills is not only misguided, but it also detracts from the real work that needs to be done. We must resist the fear-mongering tactics of those who seek to vilify an entire medium based on limited evidence and personal bias.
In conclusion, if you were a video game aficionado in the early 2000s, you know the controversy surrounding violent shooter games and their alleged link to real-world violence. However, it’s essential to separate fact from fiction and recognize that video games have had an impact on society, just not in the way that fear-mongers would have you believe. It’s time to move beyond the scapegoating and focus on evidence-based solutions to address the complex issue of violence in our society.
