John Kennedy interview interrupted after he freezes mid-sentence

Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) experienced a brief freeze during a television interview while discussing President Donald trump’s plan to intensify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions in sanctuary cities. During the live segment,Kennedy paused mid-sentence and stopped speaking for about 20 seconds. The host, Larry Kudlow, attributed the interruption to technical difficulties, mentioning that Kennedy was using the same malfunctioning microphone previously used by Senator Rand Paul. After resuming, Kennedy emphasized that mayors of sanctuary cities cannot defy federal law and stated, “we’re gonna have to do something about it.” The incident drew attention in the broader context of similar public moments involving senior senators, such as Mitch McConnell, who has faced health-related issues in recent months.

John Kennedy interview interrupted after he freezes mid-sentence

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) gave an extended pause in an interview Tuesday when he broke off mid-sentence and stopped talking.

Kennedy, 73, conducted a television interview to discuss President Donald Trump’s intent to “double down” with Immigration and Customs Enforcement moving into sanctuary cities. The senator said the United States “clearly” has some sanctuary cities and mayors refusing to follow federal law.

“I’m not saying [mayors of sanctuary cities are] bad people. I’m sure Jesus loves them, but everybody else think… everybody else…” Kennedy said on Fox Business’s Kudlow before trailing off.

Host Larry Kudlow chalked the freeze-up to “technical problems,” saying Kennedy was using the same microphone with which Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) had problems. Kudlow interviewed Paul just before Kennedy’s interview, during which Paul said he lost connection during their discussion.

Kennedy returned on air roughly 20 seconds after his freeze, saying mayors cannot break federal law and “we’re gonna have to do something about it.” He concluded his interview by stating, “I can’t hear a word you’re saying, mate.”

The Washington Examiner has contacted Kennedy’s office for comment.

Shortly after McConnell’s fall, he announced he would not seek reelection in 2026.
