Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) faced a setback in the speaker vote, losing votes from 22 Republicans who favored Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) or Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA). This sets Jordan up for a third round of voting, with many predicting further losses for him.
Some lawmakers have suggested a resolution to expand Rep. Patrick McHenry’s (R-NC) interim speaker powers to ensure the House can continue to operate. Boehner and former Speaker Newt Gingrich have expressed their support for this resolution.
