Joe Concha claims Trump’s Japan visit is great ‘optics’ amid tariff war with China
The article discusses President Donald Trump’s visit to Japan amid the ongoing tariff war with China. Washington Examiner senior writer Joe Concha praised the visit as strong “optics,” highlighting Japan’s warm and patriotic welcome for Trump. Concha emphasized that the U.S. has a dominant position in trade negotiations, with key allies like Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia aligning against China’s trade practices. As the introduction of tariffs, the U.S. stock market has performed well, contrary to recession fears. Trump has negotiated a 15% tariff agreement with Japan and hinted at the possibility of a 100% tariff increase on Chinese imports. The article also notes an upcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea to finalize trade discussions.
Joe Concha claims Trump’s Japan visit is great ‘optics’ amid tariff war with China
Washington Examiner Senior Writer Joe Concha noted that President Donald Trump signaled a dominating position in the tariff war in his visit to Japan.
Concha reported on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime Monday that Japan gave Trump a warm welcome upon his arrival as “many of the buildings are lit up and red, white and blue.”
“Since liberation day, and everybody decrying these tariffs on April 2nd of this year, the DOW is up more than 40% since that day. When everybody who was supposed to be an expert said we would go into a recession, the stock market would crash, quite the opposite has happened,” Concha said.
“So Trump goes in with the royal flush right now as far as is meeting with Xi Jinping, where he has South Korea and India and Australia, and Japan, all on board with this so-called tariff war, deals are being made, China realizes that it’s being isolated at this point,” Concha said. “Optics like this really do matter when you are meeting with the Chinese because they understand that Donald Trump ain’t playing around.”
TRUMP HAS BEGUN ASIA TRIP WITH MAJOR TRADE DEAL AND OPENNESS TO MEETING KIM JONG UN
Trump drafted a 15% tariff agreement with Japan following negotiations with Japanese trade negotiator Ryosei Akazawa. Meanwhile, Trump has teased a 100% tariff increase on all Chinese imports to the United States.
Later this week, Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet with Trump in South Korea to finish negotiating a trade deal.
