Concha noted that while a recent poll conducted by Musk showed 65.4% support for the idea, he believes the party’s impact would more likely disrupt Republican victories in close elections rather than provide a viable alternative in politics. He argued that Musk is acting as a “spoiler” rather than genuinely contributing solutions. Former President Donald Trump also dismissed the concept of a third-party, labeling it as “ridiculous.” Musk’s initiative aims to restore individual freedoms, but skepticism remains around its feasibility in the current political landscape.

Washington Examiner Senior Writer Joe Concha predicted Tesla CEO Elon Musk would not elect even one representative to Congress via his new political party.
Musk conducted a poll on X Saturday that found 65.4% of respondents favored his idea to start a new “America Party,” while 34.6% voted against it. There were just over 1.2 million recorded responses.
“So, this party that Elon Musk is attempting to launch, David, it’s not going to get one representative elected to Congress. But what it may do, given the amount of money that Musk can pour into it, he can move a 1-point Republican victory,” Concha said on Fox Business’s Varney & Co. Monday.
One-point victories can be common in House races.
During the 2024 election cycle, the average margin of victory for a representative’s district was only 2,436 votes. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), for example, held her seat by just 0.2 percentage points, which was the closest of any race. Her victory came down to just 799 votes.
“So yeah, this could do some damage to the Republican Party,” Concha said. “And that’s what Musk appears to be doing at this point, just trying to play the spoiler instead of actually offering a solution, an alternative that people can actually get into office with.”
Musk claimed the new party would work “to give you back your freedom.”
After the poll, President Donald Trump voiced his doubt over the third-party plan.

“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party,” Trump said Sunday. “Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous.”
Despite being a former adviser to the president, Musk pledged to help challenge “every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history.”
This was in reference to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that Trump signed into law last week.
