Biden believes media’s accurate economic reporting would boost his popularity
President Joe Biden Blames Media for Floundering Poll Numbers on Economy
President Joe Biden apparently believes that he would be polling better with the American people if media outlets were reporting on the economy “the right way.”
The president spoke briefly with reporters on Saturday — just before he departed the White House to spend Christmas at Camp David — and he made it clear the he blamed the media for his floundering poll numbers, particularly with regard to his economic policies.
When one reporter asked Biden about his “outlook” on the economy going into 2024 and his re-election campaign, Biden replied, “All good. Take a look … Start reporting it the right way.”
Biden’s comments came in the wake of yet another poll indicating that he is struggling to get above water even with his own party.
“Talk about shooting the messenger,” Fox Business host David Asman posted on X, adding, “61% of Democrats joining the 93% of Republicans and 85% of independents who say the economy is in bad condition … and Biden’s blaming the media.”

Concerns Over Biden’s Economic Policies
According to the Fox News poll Asman mentioned, only 14% of Americans believe that they have been helped by President Biden’s economic policies — and almost half (46%) say that “Bidenomics” have resulted in them personally taking a financial hit. Overall, 78% said that the economy was in bad shape.
In addition, 68% said that they were not satisfied with the direction the country was going — a 15-point increase from 53% just after Biden took office in 2021. The jump was much higher among Democrats — from 20% in 2021 to 47% in this latest poll.

The poll also indicated that Americans are worried things could get worse before they get better, economically speaking — just 22% said that they believed the economy would improve in the next year, while twice as many respondents (44%) said they expected to see things get worse in 2024.
As the 2024 presidential campaigns ramp up, the economy ranks highest among voters’ concerns — followed by illegal immigration.
How do President Biden’s poll numbers on his handling of the economy compare to his overall approval ratings?

This is not the first time that President Biden has expressed frustration over media coverage of his presidency. In November, he publicly criticized the media for not giving enough attention to his accomplishments and focusing too much on negative aspects of his presidency. However, blaming the media for his poll numbers is a new step for the president.
It is important to note that President Biden’s economic policies have received mixed reviews. While his administration has touted his infrastructure bill and other policy initiatives as crucial for economic growth, critics argue that these policies have resulted in inflation, rising prices, and an uncertain economic future.
According to a recent poll conducted by ABC News, only 36% of Americans approve of President Biden’s handling of the economy, while 60% disapprove. The same poll also found that 73% of Americans believe that the economy is in poor shape.
These poll numbers highlight the challenge that President Biden faces in convincing the American people that his economic policies are effective. While the media certainly plays a role in shaping public opinion, it is ultimately the results and impact of his policies that will determine his success.
Blaming the media for his poll numbers could be seen as an attempt to deflect criticism and shift the blame onto an external factor. However, it is important for President Biden to take responsibility for the state of the economy and address the concerns of the American people.
Furthermore, it is worth questioning whether President Biden’s accusation that the media is not reporting on the economy “the right way” is a valid claim. While media outlets have a responsibility to provide accurate and unbiased information, it is also their duty to hold the government accountable and highlight both positive and negative aspects of its policies.
The role of the media in a democracy is to inform the public and provide a platform for discussion and debate. It is not the media’s job to consistently portray the government and its policies in a positive light, but rather to present a balanced and comprehensive view.
President Biden’s frustration with media coverage highlights a broader issue of trust between the government and the media. In an era of increasing polarization and skepticism towards the media, it is important for both sides to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards a mutual understanding.
Ultimately, President Biden’s poll numbers on the economy will depend on the real-world impact of his policies. While media coverage certainly plays a role in shaping public opinion, it is the American people’s lived experiences and economic realities that will ultimately determine their support or lack thereof for the president’s economic agenda.
It remains to be seen whether President Biden’s blaming of the media will have any effect on his poll numbers. However, what is clear is that both the government and the media have a responsibility to the American people to provide accurate information, engage in honest discourse, and work towards the common goal of a thriving economy.
