Joe Biden believes the Grand Canyon is among Earth’s nine wonders, even though there are only seven recognized wonders.
President Joe Biden made an interesting claim during his visit to Arizona. He referred to the Grand Canyon as “one of the earth’s nine wonders,” even though there are only seven recognized “Wonders of the World.” This statement caught the attention of many, considering that all the existing wonders are man-made.
Biden’s trip to Arizona, a crucial battleground state, focused on the economy and climate provisions included in his Inflation Reduction Act. This visit took place amidst record-breaking temperatures across the nation.

“The Grand Canyon — one of the earth’s nine wonders — wonders of the world. Literally. Think of that. You know, it’s amazing,” Biden exclaimed.
However, critics were quick to point out that there are only seven recognized Wonders of the World, and the Grand Canyon is not among them. In reality, both the original and updated lists of wonders are all man-made.
The original list included the Great Pyramid at Giza, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Temple of Artemis, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Out of these, only the pyramid has truly stood the test of time.
The updated list from 2007, compiled after a global contest and over 100 million votes, features seven new wonders that still exist: the Colosseum (Rome, Italy), Petra (Jordan), The Great Wall (China), Chechen Itza (Mexico), Machu Picchu (Peru), Christ the Redeemer (Brazil), and the Taj Mahal (India).
Although the Grand Canyon is not part of the recognized Wonders of the World, it does appear on another list. CNN compiled this list in 1997, naming it the “Seven Natural Wonders of the World.” It includes Mount Everest, Paricutin Volcano, the Grand Canyon, Victoria Falls, Rio de Janeiro Harbor, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Northern Lights.
Biden concluded his visit to Arizona with an exclusive one-on-one interview with The Weather Channel, which aired on Wednesday.
One particular clip from the interview gained attention as Biden brushed a bug off Stephanie Abrams’ chest.
