‘Jim Snow’: Joe Concha pokes fun at NYC snow shovel ID rules

This Washington Examiner piece centers on Joe concha’s critique of Democratic opposition to voter ID laws, framed against New York City’s snow-shoveling ID requirements during a Northeast blizzard. It notes that NYC and nearby areas faced heavy snowfall, with local officials and politicians discussing ways to mobilize help, even jokingly framing paperwork-heavy roles like “Emergency Snow Shovelers” that would require multiple IDs and other documents.

Key points include:

– Concha ridicules Democrats’ stance on voter ID while highlighting NYC’s (and other Northeast areas’) ID requirements for snow-shoveling jobs, calling attention to what he sees as political hypocrisy.

– The article highlights Democratic figures such as Adam Schiff and Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer opposing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), which Concha and supporters label as restrictive; Schumer has referred to the idea of voter ID in broader terms as “Jim Crow 2.0.”

– Concha counters that voter ID is necessary and asserts that about 90% of Americans support it.

– The House passed the SAVE Act by a 218-213 vote, but its fate in the Senate remains uncertain, given the Republican majority and potential filibuster concerns. Senator John Thune has been cited as promising a Senate vote but has not yet acted.

– the piece includes a video segment and references to related commentary and “Recommended Stories,” and it appears within the Washington Examiner’s opinion and analysis framework.

the article presents a provocative contrast between calls for voter ID reform and seemingly ID-heavy local requirements, using humor and political rhetoric to argue in favor of stricter identification standards.

‘Jim Snow’: Joe Concha pokes fun at NYC ‘irony’ with snow shovel ID requirements

Washington Examiner senior writer Joe Concha ridiculed how some Democrats oppose requiring identification to vote, even as New York City requires multiple IDs to shovel its snow.

The Big Apple is one of many areas in the Northeast hit with blizzard conditions, with New York City and Philadelphia having massive snowfall overnight on Sunday. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said those who want to help their neighbors can become “an Emergency Snow Shoveler” if they show up to their local sanitation garage with “your paperwork,” including “two small photos, two original forms of ID, plus copies, and a Social Security card.”

Mamdani’s paperwork requirement comes after several prominent Democrats, including Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), have publicly spoken against the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, with the latter describing the voter identification bill as “Jim Crow 2.0.” Concha joked that New York City’s requirements to become an emergency snow shoveler aren’t just Jim Crow 2.0, but “Jim Snow 3.0.”

“It’s just unbelievable that Democrats, in this case a Democratic socialist, would put forth a requirement that obviously will make it impossible for women to apply, because apparently, as many Democrats have been saying on TV all weekend, it’s really, really, hard to find your birth certificate apparently, and therefore, that suppresses the vote when it comes to voting in elections,” Concha said on Fox Business’s Varney & Co. Monday.

Concha added that the “irony” of this ID requirement is “so thick,” one could cut it “with a knife.” He concluded that voter ID is necessary, and “90% of Americans support it.”

RESTORING AMERICA: ‘INFLUENCERS’ ARE LYING TO YOU ABOUT THE SAVE ACT

The House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act by a vote of 218-213 on Wednesday. The legislation has yet to pass the Senate, where Republicans only have a three-seat majority.

Several Trump supporters and influencers have been frustrated with Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), who has yet to bring the legislation to a vote. Thune has repeatedly assured that the SAVE Act will get a Senate vote, though conservatives view the promise of a vote as meaningless if the bill is destined to die due to a Democrat-led filibuster.
