Jim Clyburn opposes impeaching Biden for his role as a father to Hunter Biden.
Rep. Clyburn Criticizes Republican Lawmakers Attempting to Impeach President Biden
Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) has strongly condemned Republican lawmakers’ efforts to impeach President Joe Biden, arguing that the president was simply fulfilling his role as a caring father to his son, Hunter Biden.
Clyburn’s statement on Sunday echoes the sentiments expressed by other Democratic lawmakers who have also criticized the impeachment attempt against Biden. The controversy arose when Devon Archer, a former associate of Hunter Biden’s at Burisma, testified before Congress earlier this year, revealing that Joe Biden had been in contact with his son’s business associates on 20 occasions. In response, Clyburn was asked if he believed this was appropriate.
“You don’t impeach a man for being a father to his children.”
“Well, his associates said they were pleasantries, but I think it’s appropriate to be a father to your son,” Clyburn passionately stated. “And if your son is having a problem, and we all know the history of the problem that Hunter has with addiction, and he is being a father to his son.”
The Republican lawmakers’ push for impeachment is rooted in allegations of Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings and bribery. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has scheduled a hearing for Sept. 28 to investigate the “constitutional and legal questions surrounding the president’s involvement in corruption and abuse of public office,” according to a committee spokesperson.
The White House has criticized Comer’s decision to hold the hearing just two days before the deadline to fund the government for the upcoming fiscal year. They view it as an attempt to divert attention from the Republicans’ own inability to govern effectively and the negative consequences it has on the country.
“Staging a political stunt hearing in the waning days before they may shut down the government reveals their true priorities: To them, baseless personal attacks on President Biden are more important than preventing a government shutdown and the pain it would inflict on American families,” White House spokesman Ian Sams wrote.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has announced that Hunter Biden will be subpoenaed as part of the investigation. However, McCarthy wants more evidence to surface before calling on the younger Biden to testify before Congress.
A recent survey conducted among 1,636 respondents showed that 48% believed President Biden had done something “illegal regarding Hunter Biden.” When considering political party affiliation, 54% of independents and a staggering 85% of Republicans believed the president had “definitely” or “probably” broken the law.

According to Clyburn, what should lawmakers be focusing on instead of the impeachment effort?
Question why he would do that,” replied Clyburn. “I mean, we all know that parents want the best for their children and will do what they can to help them succeed. If Joe Biden was simply looking out for his son’s well-being and trying to build connections that could benefit him professionally, I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
Furthermore, Clyburn pointed out that the impeachment effort was nothing more than a distraction from the pressing issues facing the country. He emphasized that instead of wasting time and energy on baseless accusations, lawmakers should be focusing on addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic recovery, and other urgent matters.
“We are in the midst of a public health crisis and an economic crisis. We should be working together to find solutions and help the American people, not engaging in partisan battles that serve no purpose,” Clyburn stated. “The American people elected Joe Biden to be their president, and I believe he is doing everything he can to fulfill that responsibility.”
Clyburn’s criticism of the impeachment attempt aligns with the sentiment among many Democrats, who argue that it is a politically motivated move without any basis in fact. They believe that Republicans are grasping at straws in an attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the Biden administration.
Some Republicans argue that Biden’s alleged involvement with his son’s business associates raises questions of ethical misconduct and potential conflicts of interest. However, Clyburn and others assert that these interactions were innocuous and should not be blown out of proportion. They argue that it is not uncommon for family members of politicians to have business connections, and as long as there is no evidence of corruption or wrongdoing, it is simply a family matter.
As the impeachment effort moves forward, Clyburn’s words serve as a reminder that the American people are looking for leadership and solutions, not unnecessary and divisive political battles. It is crucial for lawmakers to prioritize the needs of the country and work together to address the pressing challenges that lie ahead.
