Jerry Nadler lauds Mamdani ‘who won’t give Trump an inch’
Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) publicly endorsed New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani following Mamdani’s victory in the Democratic primary.Nadler praised mamdani as a leader who would firmly stand up to former President Trump’s agenda, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership to protect New York City’s hospitals, schools, and vulnerable populations. Mamdani has launched a “Five Boroughs Against Trump Tour” to rally support across the city. Nadler’s endorsement is notable as many of his congressional colleagues from New York,including Hakeem Jeffries,Dan Goldman,Ritchie Torres,and Senator Chuck Schumer,have not endorsed Mamdani,with some supporting other candidates. However, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nydia Velázquez have also endorsed Mamdani. Nadler highlighted the critical nature of the mayoral race, stating that every seat and every race matters for the direction of New York City and its resistance to Trump’s policies.

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) spoke at a rally Monday on behalf of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
Starting Monday, Mamdani is hosting several rallies for his “Five Boroughs Against Trump Tour.” Nadler attended the press conference announcing the tour. Nadler endorsed Mamdani after the Democratic primary, which went to Mamdani.
“Every seat matters, every race matters, and who is mayor of New York is crucial,” Nadler said. “New York City needs a leader who won’t give Trump an inch, who won’t flinch or bargain away our rights.”
“With Zohran Mamdani as mayor, we’ll have a leader who will defend our hospitals, our schools, and our neighbors from Trump’s devastating policies. With the right mayor, with the right leadership, we can blunt Trump’s attacks, protect our most vulnerable, and build a city where prosperity is shared and no one is left behind.”

Nadler is in the minority in endorsing Mamdani among his congressional colleagues in New York.
Reps. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Dan Goldman (D-NY), Ritchie Torres (D-NY), and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) avoided offering an endorsement since Mamdani won the primary. Goldman and Torres endorsed candidates who lost to Mamdani.
Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Nydia Margarita Velázquez (D-NY) endorsed Mamdani.
