Jennifer Lawrence anxious about working with method actors, prefers Christian Bale’s quick approach.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence Criticizes Method Acting
Jennifer Lawrence, known for her roles in various films, has expressed her strong opinions about method acting. In an interview with “Hot Ones,” she admitted feeling nervous about working with actors who employ this technique to prepare for a role.
“I would be nervous to work with someone who’s method [acting],” Lawrence said. “Because I would have no idea how to talk to them, ’cause like, do I have to be in character? That would just make me nervous.”
Lawrence, who stars in the new comedy “No Hard Feelings,” shared her personal approach to getting into character. She revealed that she was inspired by Christian Bale, whom she worked with on the film “American Hustle.”
“When the camera started rolling and the crew started preparing, it would be about 10 seconds to action, he [Bale] would start getting ready,” Lawrence explained. “I saw that and was like, ‘That seems like a really good idea.’ So then I started to do that.”
Interestingly, Bale, who is often associated with method acting, denies being one himself. In an interview with UNILAD, he stated, “You know, people call me that. And I don’t even really know what it is. I just kind of wing it.”
“Method actors study method acting. I’ve never studied any acting at all,” Bale continued. “I just don’t want to offend true method actors. I just do whatever I do. I don’t know what it is.”
