Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s father, Lionel Dahmer, has passed away in hospice care at the age of 87.
On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Lionel Dahmer passed away from “unknown causes” while under hospice care in Medina County, Ohio.
The exact date of his death is still unknown.
Jeffrey Dahmer was a notorious serial killer and cannibal who murdered at least 17 people in Bath township, Ohio, as well as Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Lionel had always stood by his psychotic son. In a 1994 interview with Oprah, he said: “I still love my son. I’ll always stick by him – I always have.”
His death comes almost a year after his wife Shari died on January 13th at a nursing home in Seville, a village in Medina County, Ohio.
The father also frequently visited the prison where his son was confined until 1994. In that year, Christopher Scarver, another inmate, fatally beat Jeffrey to death with a metal bar, less than a year after Jeffrey was found guilty of his crimes.
In 1978, when Jeffrey’s brother, David, was twelve and Jeffrey was eighteen, Lionel divorced Joyce Flint, Dahmer’s biological mother.
In his book “A Father’s Story,” he described how he had raised Dahmer from his perspective and attempted to explore the deeper reasons behind his criminal behavior.
He also acknowledged that he had tried to reach out to his son and that he was aware of his alcoholism and mental issues, but he was unable to identify any clear explanation for why his son had become a serial killer.
