Jasmine Crockett calls Trump ‘Temu Hitler’
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) criticized former President donald Trump by calling him a “Temu Hitler” in response to his proposed congressional redistricting map in Texas.Trump aims to redraw districts to gain five additional Republican seats, including possibly flipping CrockettS Houston district. In protest against the GOP-led redistricting effort, over 50 Texas Democratic lawmakers left the state to break the legislative quorum and traveled to Chicago to delay the vote. Crockett, a former Texas House member, spoke at a rally supporting the Democrats’ stand against what she views as an attack on democracy, accusing Trump of attempting to act like a dictator.
The Texas House has issued arrest warrants for the absentee Democrats, who plan to remain in Illinois. Crockett recalled a previous experience when she faced an arrest warrant for her absence during a 2021 protest against restrictive voting legislation signed by Governor Greg Abbott. Crockett emphasized that Democrats are standing firm for the people against efforts to suppress voting rights and unfairly redraw districts to disadvantage them politically.
Jasmine Crockett calls Trump ‘Temu Hitler’
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) called President Donald Trump “Temu Hitler” over his proposed congressional map for Texas.
Crockett blasted Trump for suggesting district changes in Texas to win “five” more seats for the Republican Party. Among the seats Trump hopes to flip is Crockett’s district in Houston.
A majority of Texas’s 50 Democratic lawmakers left the state over the weekend to break the Texas House quorum and gathered in Chicago, Illinois, on Tuesday. The exodus was their attempt to stop a vote to redistrict Texas.
Crockett joined the lawmakers at a public rally, addressing the crowd as a former Texas House member.
“For everyone that has been asking, where are the Democrats? Well, here they are. For everyone that has been asking, Where is the fight? Well, here it is,” Crockett said. “But let me tell you something. Don’t leave them out on a ledge by themselves. They need to know that you, the American people, stand with them because they are standing for you.”
“They understand the importance of standing for what democracy is and making sure that it does not fall by the wayside. They understand that we have a Temu Hitler in the White House right now that thinks that he is going to become the dictator of the United States,” Crockett said.
Temu is an online retailer known for selling low-cost versions of popular items.
Since a vote on redistricting was scheduled for Monday, the Texas House passed a motion calling for the arrest of the lawmakers who left because the chamber failed to reach a quorum to vote. Even though the chamber is scheduled to gather again at 1 p.m. Tuesday, the lawmakers plan to stay in Chicago.
In 2021, while serving in the Texas House, Crockett was issued a similar arrest warrant for being absent from the state legislature. Crockett commemorated the anniversary in an Instagram post Monday alongside a picture of her framed warrant in her congressional office.
“Story time: almost to the day 4 years ago, for the only time in my life, a warrant was issued for my arrest, not because I was sexually abusing people (coughs like 47), not because I was defrauding people (coughs like 47), not because I staged a coup (coughs like 47),” Crockett wrote.
“[B]ut because I had the AUDACITY to represent for the people in my district that the Texas Republican legislature sought to trample upon,” she continued.
At the time, Texas lawmakers were voting on a bill regarding election procedures. The legislation rolled back pandemic-era expansions on voting capabilities, such as 24-hour and drive-thru voting. It also added identity verification steps, requiring voters to provide their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number, among other policy changes.
CROCKETT CALLS TRUMP A ‘PIECE OF S***’ IN COMMENTS AGAINST SUPREME COURT
Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) signed the bill into law in September 2021, despite protests from Crockett and roughly 50 other Democratic lawmakers.
“Well, I got another thing to tell you, sir,” Crockett said Tuesday. “The Democrats are not going to stand for this any longer. We know that we are standing for the people.”
