The Man Who Stole from Nancy Pelosi’s Office Sentenced to Four Years in Prison
The man who infamously photographed himself with a stolen photo from Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s office on January 6th has been handed a four-year prison sentence. U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell delivered the verdict, sentencing Kevin James Lyons, 40, to 51 months in prison for his involvement in the Capitol riot. Lyons not only took a photo of the late Rep. John Lewis but also snatched a wallet from a staffer’s jacket pocket.

Although Lyons did not share the photo of himself with the stolen property on social media, he did send it via text message to his friends. Along with the image, he added a caption that read, “I took this off Pelosi’s f***ing desk!! We f***ing did it!!” In another text sent just minutes later, Lyons expressed his realization that he had become a multiple Federal felon.
The FBI was able to identify Lyons by January 8, 2021, thanks to a photo he had posted on Instagram showing a map of Washington, D.C. In the caption, he declared, “I refuse to tell my children that I sat back and did nothing. I am heading to DC to STOP THE STEAL!” Despite deleting the post after just an hour, Lyons tried to deny his involvement when FBI agents arrived at his Chicago home for questioning.
Lyons is one of the 19 individuals from Illinois who have been charged with crimes related to the events of January 6th. While seven Illinoisans have accepted plea deals, Lyons was not among them. He was found guilty in April of this year.
