Jan. 6 committee asks for tech company records

The Jan. 6 committee is seeking tech records to further investigate what led up to the protests at the U.S. Capitol. On Friday, the committee asked a list of tech and social media companies to provide records of messages relating to the events that unfolded on Jan. 6.
The group seeks documentation including reports, data and analyses dating back to spring of 2020 from major companies like Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and others. This comes as the group has said they have several hundred people to contact in relation to the event.
Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) explained the panel aims to “examine the facts, circumstances, and causes of the attack and relating to the peaceful transfer of power, in order to identify and evaluate lessons learned and to recommend corrective laws, policies, procedures, rules, or regulations.”

The committee said it would give companies two weeks to respond.
