Israel strikes Houthi ports and power plant in Yemen

The Israeli air force struck three Houthi-controlled ports and one power plant in Yemen early Monday local time, the Israel Defense Forces announced.

As part of a military operation dubbed “Black Flag,” IAF jets targeted the ports of Al Hudaydah, Ras Isa, and Salif, as well as the Ras Kanatib Power Plant and a vessel named Galaxy Leader that was hijacked by the rebel group in 2023.

The IDF said in a statement that these sites were “used to transfer Iranian weapons and attack Israeli civilians with UAVs & missiles.” Galaxy Leader, whose crew was previously taken hostage by the Houthis and later released in early 2025, was also outfitted by the rebel group with a “radar system to track international vessels for terror operations.”

“The IDF will continue to act against threats to Israeli civilians — wherever required,” the statement said.

The attack on the Yemeni Houthis, a proxy force of Iran, comes after Israel concluded its 12-day war with the Iranian regime. That saw numerous strikes from both sides, but the regime suffered significant losses to its top military wing and nuclear capabilities.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz suggested this military operation on the Houthis, who reportedly renewed its disruptions to global shipping Sunday by attacking a commercial vessel in the Red Sea, would be of a similar scale.

“The fate of Yemen is the same as the fate of Tehran. Anyone who tries to harm Israel will be harmed, and anyone who raises a hand against Israel will have their hand cut off. The Houthis will continue to pay a heavy price for their actions,” Katz said in a statement.
