IRS whistleblower claims Weiss let statute of limitations expire in Hunter Biden case.
IRS Whistleblowers Allege DOJ Interference in Hunter Biden Investigation
Gary Shapley, a veteran agent with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), testified before House lawmakers on Wednesday, revealing that the Justice Department intentionally delayed criminal proceedings against Hunter Biden. Shapley claimed that this delay was a strategic move to allow the statute of limitations to expire.
Shapley, along with another IRS whistleblower named Joseph Ziegler, spoke out about the widespread interference they experienced during their investigation into the Biden family’s tax crimes. Both whistleblowers accused officials at the Department of Justice (DOJ) of obstructing their efforts.
According to Shapley, U.S. Delaware Attorney David Weiss purposely waited for the statute of limitations to run out on the 2014-2015 financial crimes committed by Hunter Biden. This allowed the president’s son to avoid facing additional charges. In June, it was revealed that Weiss had struck a plea deal with Hunter Biden, limiting his charges to two misdemeanor tax crimes and a single felony charge related to illegal firearm possession.
Shapley also mentioned that the plea deal included a provision that would forgive the felony charge after 24 months of sobriety. However, this agreement could be jeopardized if the mysterious White House cocaine incident was linked to Hunter Biden, who had written a book about his struggle with drug addiction.
“In November of 2022, the statute of limitations was set to expire for the 2014 and 2015 charges in D.C., which included the 2014 felonies for the attempt to evade or defeat tax and fraud or false statement regarding Burisma income earned by Hunter Biden,” Shapley explained.
Both whistleblowers also revealed that the DOJ intentionally left out additional felonies from the plea agreement with Hunter Biden. Ziegler further stated that IRS agents were pressured not to interview key witnesses in the case.
The transcripts of the IRS whistleblower interviews have increased pressure on the federal judge overseeing the case to reject the plea deal. The whistleblowers claimed that DOJ officials deliberately hindered the investigation, prevented IRS officials from interviewing crucial witnesses, and withheld key evidence from reaching IRS investigators.
It is clear that the IRS whistleblowers’ testimonies have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the Hunter Biden investigation and the potential interference by the Department of Justice.
