Israeli Airstrike ‌in Syria Claims the Life of‍ Iranian General

According ⁣to ⁢Iranian state media, a high-ranking Iranian general was killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike in Syria ​on Monday. The report also ‌claimed that he had been accompanying Qasem ⁣Soleimani, the former leader of the IRGC’s Quds Force, who was killed ⁢in a drone strike in 2020.

The strike allegedly took place in ⁤the Sayida Zeinab neighborhood of Damascus, although Israel has not directly commented on the incident. The‍ Syrian Observatory for Human ⁣Rights suggested‍ that Mousavi was targeted after entering a farm believed to be​ an office of Hezbollah, the Iran-backed ⁣Lebanese militant group.

While Israel has not claimed‍ responsibility​ for the⁢ strike,⁣ top ​Iranian leaders, including President ⁤Ebrahim Raisi, have vowed to respond. Raisi referred⁣ to Mousavi as a⁢ martyr and warned that the “Israeli regime will definitely pay ‌for this ‍crime.”

Iran’s Ambassador Warns of ⁣Retaliation

Hossein Akbari, Iran’s ambassador to Syria, spoke from Damascus and emphasized that Mousavi was killed while serving as a⁣ formal military adviser. ⁤He stated that Israel would face a response ⁢to this “crime” ‌at the appropriate time and situation.
