According to police, Michael Chastain, 45, drove through the couple’s front yard, grabbed the husband, and held a gun to his head. “I saw my husband’s life in immediate danger, and I knew I had to act,” the courageous woman stated.
Without hesitation, she retrieved her own handgun and fired a single shot, striking Chastain and neutralizing the threat. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department promptly responded to a 911 call and discovered Chastain in the front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Saint Vincent Hospital in Salem but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators later revealed that Chastain had a previous relationship with the daughter of the homeowner, although she no longer resided at the residence.
