‘I’m The Performer?’: Amber Heard Says Depp Was ‘Performing’ In Court Because He Once ‘Convinced The World He Had Scissors For Fingers’
Actress Amber Heard lashed out at her ex-husband, actor Johnny Depp, over his attorneys’ claim that she had given “the performance of a lifetime” during their recent defamation trial, arguing that he had been the one who “convinced the world he had scissors for fingers.”
Heard spoke to NBC’s Savannah Guthrie in her first post-trial interview — which aired Tuesday — and she continued to claim that Depp had lied and that she had been the victim of an exceptionally “abusive” and “toxic” dynamic throughout their relationship.

Guthrie began by pointing directly to the closing arguments, noting that Depp’s attorneys had referred to Heard’s often emotionally-charged courtroom testimony as “the performance of a lifetime.”
“In the closing arguments, the Depp lawyer said — called your testimony ‘the performance of a lifetime’ and said you were acting. What do you say to that?” she asked.
“Says the lawyer for the man who convinced the world he had scissors for fingers?” Heard quipped. “I’m the performer? I had listened to weeks of testimony insinuating that — or saying quite directly that — you know, I’m a terrible actress. So, I’m a bit confused how I could be both.”
“The Depp team argued that you were the abuser, that you instigated physical violence. Did you?” Guthrie continued.
“I never had to instigate it. I responded to it. When you are living in violence and it becomes normal, as I testified to, you have to adapt,” Heard replied, continuing to insist that she had only gotten physical as a reaction to Depp and the abusive nature of their relationship.
“You say you were responding, but there is evidence. There are tapes in which you acknowledge hitting. There are tapes which you say, ‘I started the fight,’” Guthrie pressed.
Heard pushed back, claiming that the tapes had been edited and they did not clearly show what was happening in real time. She went on to argue that the tapes were really evidence that she was negotiating with her “abuser.”
“I know much has been made of these audio tapes. They were first leaked online after being edited,” she said. “What you would hear in those clips are not evidence of what was happening. It was evidence of a negotiation of how to talk about that with your abuser.”
Depp, who won his defamation case against Heard, has not given public interviews regarding the outcome of the trial.
