IAEA says no radiation leaked from Natanz after Iran claims facility was struck

The United Nations nuclear safety watchdog said on Saturday that no radiation has been leaked from the premises of the Natanz Nuclear Facility after Iran said the site was hit in an airstrike.

This marks the latest targeted strike on an Iranian nuclear facility since the United States and Israel began their military operations against the Islamic regime and its nuclear program on Feb. 28. A joint U.S.-Israel strike hit Natanz in the first week of the war, targeting the central site of its nuclear enrichment program off the bat, 9 months after U.S. bunker buster bombs hit the facility in June 2025’s Operation Midnight Hammer.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran informed the agency that the Natanz facility was attacked again on Saturday, but did not specify by which country.

“No increase in off-site radiation levels reported. IAEA is looking into the report. IAEA Director General @rafaelmgrossi reiterates call for military restraint to avoid any risk of a nuclear accident,” the IAEA statement said.

Iran’s Tasnim media agency, which is associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said that Natanz was hit by a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike on Saturday. But the Israel Defense Forces has denied launching the strike on Natanz.

The Washington Examiner has reached out to the Pentagon, U.S. Central Command, and the White House for comment on Iranian reports of an airstrike on Natanz.

Russia, which has many ties to Iran’s nuclear program, has condemned the attack on Natanz, just as it condemned a projectile launched at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on Tuesday.

Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the Natanz attack poses “real risk of catastrophic disaster throughout the Middle East.” She said they were “clearly aimed at further undermining peace, stability, and security in the region,” according to the Associated Press.

“This is a blatant violation of international law,” Zakharova said, according to The Times of Israel.
