‘I Thought That Was Real Foul’: Former All-Pro Linebacker On Aaron Rodgers Situation

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers may want to move on from his self-inflicted COVID vaccine controversy, but that doesn’t mean that others will.

On Tuesday, the NFL fined the Green Bay organization $300,000 for COVID protocol violations, while Rodgers received a fine of $14,650 for not wearing a mask during his press conference appearances.

Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19 last week and was forced to miss Green Bay’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, illuminating the fact that Rodgers had not received the COVID vaccine. In August, Rodgers told reporters that he had been “immunized” when asked whether he had received the vaccine, causing the media to hammer Rodgers for “lying.”

On Thursday, former All-Pro linebacker Takeo Spikes discussed how the Packers locker room may feel about the situation surrounding Rodgers.

Personally, I think it was wrong.”

“Just to come out and sit up there and lie in the beginning so you can take the heat off of yourself and take the heat and attention away off of a very serious matter … I thought that was real foul of Aaron Rodgers. And I’m a big fan of his game, but that right there really got me looking at him sideways.”

Spikes was asked about his thoughts on the “slap on the wrist” punishment handed down by the NFL, raising the question of whether certain players are treated differently by the league.

“Even if I get fined, I’m leading in with the Aaron Rodgers situation because I’m going to show you the discrepancy in how you treat certain people,” Spikes said. “And until you give me a valid answer on Aaron Rodgers, then I’m not willing to listen to what you got to say about my case. Because I think the level or the degree of which he lied, especially during these troubling times that we’re going through right now, is totally irresponsible.”

Spikes is just one of many former players and media members to
