I Spoke Up for a Pediatrician Advocating for Detransitioners: The Outcome
A Critical Look at Rhode Island’s Healthcare Provider Shield Act
Eight distinguished Rhode Island medical experts stepped forward on March 7th to advocate for a contentious bill designed to protect gender-focused physicians from being sued by out-of-state individuals. Remarkably, two of these advocates were obstetricians, whose support for sterilization treatments could paradoxically diminish the very demographic they serve. The grave implications of this bill warrant a meticulous examination.
Known as the Healthcare Provider Shield Act, this legislation appears less a defense mechanism for healthcare providers and more an offensive tool potentially allowing them to pursue legal action against the patients they’ve harmed—a chilling proposition that could deter patients from seeking justice and, worse, penalize them for attempting it.
In a pivotal moment, I spoke on behalf of Dr. Michelle Cretella, the distinguished former Executive Director of the American College of Pediatricians and a leading voice on sexual health issues. Her work includes offering expert insights to legal teams representing individuals who regret transitioning.
This is Dr. Cretella’s testimony I delivered as a proxy which caused Lifespan pediatrician Dr. Emily Allen to brand Dr. Cretella’s group as a “hate organization” and to accuse them of spreading “disinformation.” 3/3 pic.twitter.com/8SmyyMelnK

The Importance of Hearing Dr. Cretella’s Testimony In Person
Dr. Cretella’s powerful testimony, spoken aloud before law-makers, provided a necessary counter-narrative against the Rhode Island medical elite, who are bloodthirsty to pass legislation silencing malpractice suits that might uncover the troubling practices within “gender-affirming care.” This live testimony served as an instrumental counterbalance to the written statements that legislators may overlook.
Dr. Cretella’s Firm Opposition to Senate Bill 2262:
“We must brace for a justified surge in malpractice suits as the dark truths of ‘gender-affirming care’ come to light, evidenced by the WPATH files. At an average age of 32, a staggering 27% of these individuals, transitioned as children, voice deep regret for irreversible fertility losses.”
Dr. Cretella then delivered an earnest caution to law-makers:
“History has renounced medical practices of the past, like lobotomies, and it is our duty to ensure victimized patients can rightfully challenge today’s so-called ‘gender-expert’ treatments in the court of law.”
Unfounded Attacks and Diversion Tactics
Dr. Emily B. Allen, a Lifespan pediatrician and educator without significant scholarly work, labeled Dr. Cretella’s organization as “a fringe hate group,” as per the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). She further dismissed Dr. Cretella’s testimony as inflammatory and unscientific.
“…full of misleading information, offensive language, and twisting of facts—it terrifies me to think of its impact on trans youth and their families.”
Dr. Allen’s emotional rhetoric was soon contested by evidence from the UK’s National Health Service, which halted the prescription of puberty blockers to children, citing a lack of supporting evidence—an act rooted in definitive science.
When challenged, Dr. Allen declined to comment on camera about allegedly misleading content in Dr. Cretella’s testimony, suggesting a lack of confidence in her public position and raising questions about her motives.
Concluding Thoughts
Other medical witnesses at the hearing reinforced Dr. Allen’s emotive pleas, sidestepping scientific discourse. This signals a troubling trend for future healthcare policies.
