Lawyer for Hunter Biden Threatens Constitutional Crisis
In a stunning turn of events, Chris Clark, the lawyer representing Hunter Biden, has issued a bold warning to the U.S. attorney investigating his client. If charges are brought against Hunter Biden, the defense team will call President Joe Biden to testify, potentially creating a constitutional crisis. This revelation was reported by POLITICO.
The warning came after leaked information revealed that federal prosecutors believed they had enough evidence to charge Hunter Biden for illegally purchasing a firearm, despite his well-known struggles with drug addiction.
“President Biden now unquestionably would be a fact witness for the defense in any criminal trial,” Clark stated in a lengthy letter to prosecutors. He further emphasized, “This of all cases justifies neither the spectacle of a sitting President testifying at a criminal trial nor the potential for a resulting Constitutional crisis.”
Meanwhile, The New York Times reported that special counsel David Weiss had a change of heart regarding the plea deal he was willing to offer Hunter Biden. Initially, Weiss was prepared to forgo any prosecution and end the investigation without requiring a guilty plea. However, his stance shifted when two IRS agents, acting as whistleblowers, alleged that they faced obstruction from higher-ups at the Department of Justice.
As a result, Weiss demanded that Hunter Biden plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax crimes and enter a deferred prosecution agreement for the gun charge.
There are several factors behind Weiss’ decision to request appointment as special counsel, including greater investigative and prosecutorial authority, increased leverage over Hunter Biden, and the need to address intense backlash from Republicans. Weiss is now obligated to produce a report at the conclusion of the investigation.
