Huckabee likens French recognition of Palestinian state to giving Nazis victory after WWII

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee criticized France’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state, comparing it to granting Nazi Germany a victory after World War II. huckabee argued that this move would embolden Hamas and hinder any prospects for peace, especially amid ongoing tensions in gaza. he expressed that such recognition is detrimental to addressing the current conflict and that efforts should instead focus on humanitarian aid for Palestinians. Huckabee also noted that the UK is considering a similar step if Israel does not agree to a ceasefire. Despite Huckabee’s criticism, France has pledged support for food distribution in Gaza and plans an airdrop to assist with the humanitarian crisis.

Mike Huckabee, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, suggested Tuesday that France’s decision to recognize Palestinian statehood would be similar to giving Nazi Germany a victory after World War II.

Huckabee criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent announcement to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations in the next two months, saying the decision will only further embolden Hamas, which operates in Gaza.

“What they’re saying is very detrimental to any future peace process, and it’s certainly detrimental to dealing with Gaza right now,” the ambassador told Fox News host Dana Perino on America’s Newsroom. “It has just made Hamas feel like that they have a real opportunity to declare a victory. That would be like letting the Nazis have a victory after World War II. What a disaster. This needs to stop.”

“No one wants [the war] to end more than the Israelis,” including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Huckabee said.

The United Kingdom is expected to join France in recognizing a Palestinian state, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer seriously considering the proposal. On Tuesday, Starmer announced the U.K. would make the move in September unless Israel agrees to a lasting ceasefire with Hamas.

Huckabee has repeatedly rejected a two-state solution to the Middle Eastern conflict.

UK WILL RECOGNIZE PALESTINIAN STATE IF ISRAEL DOES NOT TAKE STEPS TO END GAZA CONFLICT

On Tuesday morning, Huckabee said the recognition of an independent Palestinian state is a “foolish thing to do because all it’s doing is setting back any hope that Hamas is going to give up.” He added that France and the U.K. should instead allow Palestinian refugees to cross their borders and distribute food in Gaza amid the Palestinian territory’s humanitarian crisis.

Despite Huckabee’s claim, France is contributing to the food distribution in Gaza. The European nation pledged to do so late last month and is expected to execute an airdrop into Gaza in the next few days.
