Houthis commit first acts of terror, targeting innocent merchant ships
Iranian-backed Houthi Terrorists Strike Merchant Ships, Killing Civilians
In a horrifying escalation of their campaign of terror, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists have claimed their first civilian casualties this week. These Islamic extremists have been relentlessly attacking merchant ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, with over 50 terror attacks since November of last year.
The M/V Rubymar, which fell victim to an anti-ship missile attack last month, became the first ship to be sunk in these attacks, as reported by The Daily Wire.
According to a statement from U.S. Central Command, the latest attack occurred on March 6th when an anti-ship ballistic missile was launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen towards the M/V True Confidence, a Barbados-flagged, Liberian-owned bulk carrier. The missile struck the vessel, resulting in three fatalities, at least four injuries (three critical), and significant damage to the ship.
Despite the devastating impact of these attacks, President Joe Biden has yet to respond with the necessary military force to deter further acts of terror from the Houthis. As a result, global trade has been disrupted, and the lives of international seafarers are at risk.

On Tuesday, CENTCOM successfully intercepted an anti-ship ballistic missile and three one-way attack unmanned aerial systems launched by the Houthis towards the USS Carney (DDG 64) in the Red Sea. Later that day, CENTCOM had to defend itself once again, destroying three more anti-ship missiles and three unmanned surface vessels (USV) in self-defense.
How does the Iranian-backed Houthi attack on a merchant ship violate international maritime law and put civilian lives at risk?
E.com/news/iranian-backed-houthi-terrorists-strike-merchant-ships-%E2%80%8Dkilling-civilians-71397″ target=”_blank”>Iranian-backed Houthi attack on May 10th, serves as a horrifying example of the ruthlessness of these terrorists. The vessel, carrying over 12,000 tons of urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia to Tanzania, was attacked by Houthi rebels using unmanned explosive-laden boats. The detonation caused a massive explosion that resulted in the deaths of five crew members and the sinking of the ship.
This attack on a civilian merchant ship is a clear violation of international maritime law and underscores the dangerous tactics employed by the Houthi terrorists. Not only did they deliberately target a non-military vessel, but they also used unmanned boats to carry out the attack, further demonstrating their disregard for human life and their commitment to causing maximum damage.
These attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists have severe implications for global trade and security. The Red Sea and Gulf of Aden are crucial maritime routes, serving as strategic passageways for a significant proportion of global trade. Any disruption to the free movement of merchant ships through these waters can have widespread economic repercussions.
Furthermore, the Houthi attacks also endanger the lives of innocent civilians who depend on the maritime trade for their livelihoods. Merchant ships are essential for transporting goods and food supplies to vulnerable populations in conflict zones and remote areas. The targeting of these vessels not only disrupts vital supply chains but also jeopardizes the lives of those who rely on these shipments for their survival.
It is crucial for the international community to respond strongly to these acts of terror committed by the Iranian-backed Houthi group. The United Nations and other global organizations must condemn these attacks and call for an immediate end to Houthi aggression in the region. Stronger sanctions should be imposed on Iran for supporting these terrorists, and measures should be taken to disrupt their funding and supply chains.
Furthermore, the international naval forces patrolling the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden should enhance their presence and take decisive action against Houthi militants. The prevention of terrorist attacks on merchant ships and the protection of civilian lives should be their utmost priority. Collaboration between regional and international naval forces is essential to ensuring the safety and security of these vital maritime routes.
The Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists’ attacks on merchant ships and the resulting civilian casualties must not be tolerated. The international community must unite to condemn these acts and take decisive action to dismantle the Houthi terrorist infrastructure. Failure to do so not only threatens the stability of the region but also sets a dangerous precedent that could embolden other terrorist groups around the world. The innocent lives lost to these attacks deserve justice and a commitment to preventing such atrocities from happening in the future.
