Houthi terrorists attack US aid ship to Yemen
Iranian-Backed Houthi Terrorists Strike Humanitarian Aid Ship in Yemen
In a concerning development, U.S. Central Command revealed that Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen have targeted a cargo ship carrying vital humanitarian aid for the Yemeni people.
This news comes on the heels of the terrorists’ recent actions, including the downing of a U.S. drone, inflicting severe damage on a British cargo ship, and launching numerous attacks on vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
“On February 19, between 12:30 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles at M/V Sea Champion, a Greek-flagged, U.S.-owned bulk carrier bound for the port of Aden in Yemen,” CENTCOM stated. “One of the missiles detonated near the ship causing minor damage. Nevertheless, her crew proceeded on course to their ultimate destination: delivering grain to Aden, Yemen, for the benefit of the Yemeni people. M/V Sea Champion has delivered humanitarian aid to Yemen 11 times in the past five years.”
The statement further emphasized the dire situation in Yemen, stating that the Houthi aggression has worsened the already high levels of need in the conflict-ridden country. With nearly 80 percent of the population requiring humanitarian assistance, Yemen remains one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
CENTCOM affirmed its commitment to counter the Houthis’ malicious activities, which directly jeopardize the import of food and humanitarian aid to Yemen.
Over the past day and a half, U.S. forces have taken decisive action, destroying a surface-to-air missile launcher, shooting down 11 one-way attack (OWA) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and intercepting an anti-ship cruise missile.

“The OWA UAVs, the SAM system, and ASCM destroyed were identified by CENTCOM and determined they presented imminent threats to U.S. Navy ships and merchant vessels in the region,” the statement said. “These actions will protect navigational rights and freedoms and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. Navy and merchant vessels.”
What measures can be taken to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian aid shipments to Yemen
Ew successfully repelled the attack, avoiding casualties and protecting the valuable cargo onboard.”
This attack on a humanitarian aid ship is deeply troubling and raises serious questions about the intentions and actions of the Houthi terrorists. The Houthi rebels, who are known for their close ties to Iran, have been involved in a brutal war in Yemen for years, creating a dire humanitarian crisis in the country. Thousands of innocent Yemeni civilians have lost their lives, and millions are suffering from famine, disease, and lack of basic necessities.
The targeting of a ship carrying vital humanitarian aid is a clear indication that the Houthi terrorists prioritize their own destructive agenda over the well-being and survival of the Yemeni people. This is not only a violation of international law but also a blatant disregard for the principles of humanity and compassion.
Iran’s support for the Houthi rebels is well-documented. The Iranian regime has provided financial, military, and logistical support to the Houthis, empowering them to carry out their violent campaign in Yemen. Iran’s backing of the Houthi terrorists is not only destabilizing the region but also exacerbating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The international community must act swiftly and decisively to condemn these terrorist actions and hold Iran accountable for its support of the Houthi rebels. The targeting of humanitarian aid ships is a despicable act that must not be tolerated under any circumstances.
In addition to condemning these actions, it is imperative that steps are taken to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian aid shipments to Yemen. The Yemeni people are in dire need of assistance, and any hindrance to the delivery of vital aid will only exacerbate the already dire situation on the ground.
The targeting of a humanitarian aid ship by Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen is a stark reminder of the complex challenges faced by the international community in addressing the crisis in Yemen. It is imperative that countries come together to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict and work towards alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The United States, along with its allies, must continue to support the legitimate government of Yemen and work towards a comprehensive political solution that brings stability and peace to the country. This includes addressing Iran’s destabilizing role in the region and holding the Houthi terrorists accountable for their actions.
In conclusion, the attack on a humanitarian aid ship by Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen is a shocking and reprehensible act. It highlights the urgent need for the international community to take strong action against the Houthi rebels and their sponsors. The Yemeni people have suffered enough and deserve our unwavering support in their quest for peace, stability, and a better future.
