House Republicans support Jordan’s stance on allowing a floor vote for aid to Israel and Ukraine.
House Republicans Flip Votes in Support of Jim Jordan for Speaker
Exciting developments are happening in the race for the next Republican House speaker! Several House Republicans have recently changed their votes in favor of nominee Jim Jordan (R-OH), and the reason behind this shift is quite intriguing.
“However you feel about Israel and Ukraine, I think a responsible and reasonable government ought to address those questions separately,” says Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who has endorsed Jordan for the speakership.
It seems that these Republicans believe that Jordan will allow a floor vote on tying funding for Ukraine and Israel. This has sparked a wave of support for Jordan, with even House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL) changing his stance.
“@Jim_Jordan and I have had two cordial, thoughtful, and productive conversations over the past two days. We agreed on the need for Congress to pass a strong NDAA, appropriations to fund our government’s vital functions, and other important legislation like the Farm Bill,” Rogers posted on Monday.
“As a result, I have decided to support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House on the floor.”
Previously, Rogers had firmly stated that nothing would make him support Jordan as speaker. However, after their discussions, he seems to have had a change of heart.
But the support for Jordan doesn’t stop there. Reps. Ken Calvert (R-CA) and Ann Wagner (R-MO) have also flipped their votes, citing conversations with Jordan about their appropriations and national security goals.
It’s important to note that federal funding for the wars in Israel and Ukraine has been a contentious issue among House Republicans. While some argue that funding for both wars would enhance global security, over half of the conference voted against supplying more funding for Ukraine last month.
Allowing a floor vote on this matter could potentially lead to the funding being passed, thanks to support from Democrats. However, even with these additional votes, Jordan still faces an uphill battle to secure the 217 votes needed to become the next speaker.
The next floor vote for speaker is scheduled for Tuesday at noon. Exciting times lie ahead!

How are House Republicans addressing concerns over Jim Jordan’s handling of the allegations against Ohio State University’s wrestling team doctor, Richard Strauss?
Orsed Jordan for speaker. “We shouldn’t conflate the two issues and use one as a political weapon against someone who is dedicated to conservative principles and fighting for the American people.”
Gaetz’s sentiment is shared by many House Republicans who believe that their vote should be based on the individual’s qualifications and values, rather than any external controversies surrounding them. Jordan, a staunch conservative and founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, has long been seen as a champion for the Republican Party’s core principles.
However, it is important to note that some House Republicans initially withheld their support for Jordan due to concerns over his handling of the allegations against Ohio State University’s wrestling team doctor, Richard Strauss. Jordan, who was an assistant wrestling coach at the university from 1987 to 1995, has been accused of turning a blind eye to the sexual abuse of student athletes during his tenure.
Despite these accusations, many House Republicans have chosen to stand by Jordan, arguing that there is a lack of concrete evidence to support the claims against him. They believe that it is unfair to judge him based on unverified allegations, and that his track record as a conservative leader should be the determining factor in their support for him.
The change in votes has been seen as a strategic move by House Republicans to unify the party and present a strong front ahead of the upcoming elections. With the Democrats currently holding a narrow majority in the House of Representatives, Republicans are eager to rally behind a strong leader who can effectively oppose the Democratic agenda.
Jim Jordan’s unwavering dedication to conservative values and his history of fighting for the American people have won over many House Republicans, who now see him as the best candidate to lead their party. They believe that his leadership skills and commitment to conservative principles make him the ideal choice to lead the Republican Party in the House.
As the voting for the next House speaker approaches, all eyes are on Jim Jordan and the growing support he is gaining from his Republican colleagues. If elected, he would bring a fresh perspective and a strong conservative voice to a party in need of a unifying leader.
The race for the next House speaker is far from over, but the recent shift in votes towards Jim Jordan has certainly shaken up the competition. It remains to be seen whether this change in support will be enough to secure Jordan the coveted position, but one thing is clear – he has certainly gained the attention and respect of many House Republicans.
As the Republican Party continues to navigate the challenges of a divided government and a polarized political climate, the selection of the next House speaker will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s future. The outcome of this race will not only impact the Republican Party’s ability to effectively oppose Democratic initiatives but will also define its identity and values in the years to come.
It is an exciting time for House Republicans as they rally behind their chosen leader in the race for the next House speaker. Jim Jordan’s growing support and the shifting votes in his favor highlight the complex dynamics within the party and the importance of selecting a strong and principled leader for the challenges ahead.
