The House Small Business Committee has taken action to address the “lackluster government response” in‌ aiding the victims of the Hawaii wildfire. The SBA plays a crucial role in providing ⁣disaster loans and assistance to homeowners ⁣and business owners ‍affected by ‍natural disasters. Through their Business⁢ Recovery Centers and coordination with the Resource⁢ Partner Network, they aid in the recovery and rebuilding process.

The committee emphasizes the importance of effective utilization ⁤of‌ taxpayer-funded resources ‌during times of need. They are committed to ensuring that the SBA’s resources are administered properly to assist survivors in‌ rebuilding their ‍lives.

The committee has specifically requested the SBA to provide them with a copy of their immediate response plan, ongoing efforts to assist those impacted, average review and approval times for disaster loans related to the Maui fires, and‌ their long-term plan for aiding ‍affected homeowners and business owners.

The SBA has been given until August 31st to respond to these requests.

Republicans have heavily criticized the federal government’s response to the Hawaii wildfires, ‍particularly following ⁣President Joe⁢ Biden’s trip to survey the damage, which was ⁢marred by gaffes.

House Speaker ‌Kevin McCarthy has expressed his concerns‌ and stated that there will likely be a congressional investigation into ⁤the federal government’s response‌ to the wildfires.

“I’m very ‍concerned about the response,” McCarthy said. “We still have hundreds of individuals that are missing. I think there’s gonna have to be a congressional investigation in response to what happened. How could we lose that many Americans in today’s ⁢age? And the federal response seems very delayed. The president’s response to have no comment? That’s unacceptable. So I’m going to work‌ with committees to look into investigating what went⁤ on so that never happens⁤ again as well.”
