Poll suggests Hispanic voters shifting towards GOP in crucial swing states
Exclusive: Republicans Making Strides Among Hispanic Voters in Key Swing States
The latest poll conducted by the American Principles Project and exclusively revealed to the Washington Examiner sheds light on a significant shift in Hispanic voter sentiment in Arizona and Nevada. Surveys of 500 likely Latino voters in these pivotal states show former President Donald Trump in a close race with President Joe Biden.
“Joe Biden and Democrats should be very worried,” states Alfonso Aguilar, Director of Hispanic Engagement at APP. “Their far-left extremism is prompting many Hispanics to reevaluate Republican candidates like Donald Trump, who better align with their values.”
Key Findings and Insights
The poll delved into values and cultural stances, revealing intriguing perspectives:
- 60% favor laws preventing men from competing in women’s sports
- 57% support banning gender reassignment surgeries for children under 18
- 64% endorse schools informing parents if their child identifies as transgender
- 67% back a 12-week abortion ban with certain exceptions
- 57% oppose the use of the term “Latinx” to describe their community
- 79% agree that too much emphasis is placed on race in America
- 67% believe schools should focus on core subjects, leaving sex and race discussions to parents
Respondents identified the economy as a paramount concern, reminiscing about the improved job market during the Trump era.
“Under Trump, Hispanic unemployment hit record lows, incomes soared, and millions transitioned from welfare to the middle class—an embodiment of the American dream,” notes Aguilar.
Immigration emerged as another pivotal issue, with strong support for border security measures like deportation and the “Remain in Mexico” policy.
Biden’s campaign, recognizing the changing dynamics, rolled out the “Latinos con Biden-Harris” initiative in Phoenix, aiming to connect with Latino voters across several key states.
“You’re a crucial part of my victory over Donald Trump,” Biden proclaims. “Your support is essential to our success.”
The initiative, featuring events in Nevada, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Arizona, refrains from using the term “Latinx,” acknowledging the diverse views within the Latino community.
