Hillary Clinton says Trump is ‘destroying’ White House with ballroom construction

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized president Donald Trump for the ongoing renovations to the White house’s East Wing, describing the construction as “destroying” the historic building. Trump began work on a $200 million project to build a new, fully modernized ballroom with a capacity to hold up to 999 people-significantly larger than the previous space. He stated that the project fulfills a long-standing desire of past presidents for a larger event space. Funded by Trump and private donors, the renovation includes partial demolition of the East Wing. Clinton, Trump’s 2016 election opponent, expressed her disapproval on social media, emphasizing that the White House belongs to the public, not Trump. Trump also held a fundraiser to celebrate the ballroom project and announced plans for another monument, the “independence Arch,” to commemorate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

Hillary Clinton says Trump is ‘destroying’ White House with ballroom construction

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is “destroying” the White House with his East Wing renovations, sharing a picture of the East Wing’s partial demolition.

Trump announced on Monday that construction began for “fully modernized” East Wing, adding that he’s fulfilling a 150-year-long wish from past presidents to create a White House ballroom. The president announced this $200 million project in late July and is funding it himself, with “other patriot donors.”

Clinton, Trump’s opponent in the 2016 election, shared her disdain for his renovations.

“It’s not his house. It’s your house. And he’s destroying it,” Clinton said on X.

Clinton has been criticizing Trump since his return to the White House in January. On Trump’s 100th day on April 29, she said on X that he “alienated us from our allies” and “crashed the stock market.”

On Monday, Trump announced the new ballroom will host up to 999 people, a significant increase from the previous room’s capacity of 88 people. He said previous presidents have complained about the lack of space for large gatherings and called the new ballroom “the most beautiful ballroom in the country.”

Trump held a fundraiser dinner on Wednesday to celebrate the new ballroom and unveiled another project he is working on, the “Independence Arch.” The monument set to be built across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., will commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary next year.
