Hern aims to lead House as he led McDonald’s: fostering unity.
Rep. Kevin Hern Promises to Listen to Everybody as Speaker of the House
During an appearance on Cavuto Live, Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) made a compelling case for why he would be an excellent candidate for the position of speaker of the House. With Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) withdrawing as the nominee after three failed elections, the speaker position is now up for grabs.

“For 25 years before coming to Congress, I spent my entire career working alongside other franchisees from McDonald’s, 3,000 of them, coast to coast and border to border. Despite our dissimilar interests, I was able to bring them together and create a functioning organization,” Hern stated confidently. He also highlighted his experience at the Republican Study Committee and the five caucus leadership group, which have equipped him with the skills to understand and address diverse interests. “So I know all of these dissimilar interests and what needs to be done. And I look forward to doing this as the next speaker of the House.”
Hern revealed that he had voted for Jordan in all three of his unsuccessful elections, emphasizing that he would have supported anyone who appeared to have the majority. However, despite endorsements from Reps. Nancy Mace (R-SC), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and Andy Biggs (R-AZ), who voted to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker, Jordan couldn’t secure the necessary votes. It is worth noting that McCarthy himself had to go through 15 elections before winning the gavel.
“People want to be heard, and I spent time listening to people, learning that over my almost 35 years in the McDonald’s business,” Hern explained passionately. “And people want to be valued in their opinions. When you come to Congress, everybody is the CEO of their own district. And we have 220 CEOs, and somebody is picked to be the class president, if you will. As the speaker, you have to listen to everybody and bring people together.”
Furthermore, Reps. Austin Scott (R-GA), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Pete Sessions (R-TX), Mike Johnson (R-LA), Jack Bergman (R-MI), and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) are also vying for the position of speaker and have requested consideration from the conference. McCarthy has endorsed Emmer.
As the House enters its 18th day without a speaker, the lack of leadership is hindering the accomplishment of any congressional business. Currently, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) is serving as the speaker pro tempore.
