Hecklers stormed a stage where New York City Mayor Eric Adams was speaking, accusing him of being bought by the rich.

On Tuesday, during a “power breakfast” held by the Association for a Better New York, Adams gave a speech outlining updates on progress made by the city under his tenure. In the middle of the speech, a group of hecklers stormed the stage, placing themselves within arm’s length of the mayor, video showed.

“How much money do you take from the rich?” the protesters chanted.

“We need a new mayor!” others shouted.

The protesters shouted complaints about rent and landlords, and security quickly retook the stage and dragged them off.

The left-wing group Planet Over Profit claimed responsibility for the incident.

“This was us. Landlord Adams is torching our city so he can keep eating out of real estate lobby’s hands. He gutted the city’s Green New Deal, Local Law 97, so the rich can get richer. Enough is enough. Let’s get us a better mayor,” they wrote on X.

The group has previously taken responsibility for protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. In November, they floated a balloon calling for a ceasefire outside the window of a New York Times conference during interviews with Vice President Kamala Harris and Disney CEO Bob Iger.

👋 That was us!!!
PERMANENT CEASEFIRE NOW!
We floated it up during Kamala Harris and Bob Iger’s interviews by the Times — the VP gives UNCONDITIONAL support to a murderous regime in Israel. Tens of thousands have died and millions displaced on her watch. Shame on @KamalaHarris https://t.co/xkODMNcV4p

While Adams brushed off Tuesday’s protest, the act shows the growing tensions between Adams and the Democratic base that propelled him to office.
