Representative Haley Stevens (D-MI) is preparing to file articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. This move follows kennedy’s controversial claims linking Tylenol use during pregnancy to autism, which Stevens sharply criticized. She accuses Kennedy of endangering public safety by undermining scientific research,spreading conspiracy theories,restricting vaccine access,and failing to adequately perform his duties with agencies like the FDA and CDC. Stevens, who is also running for the U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, stated her intent to lead efforts to remove Kennedy from office. While othre Democrats have called for Kennedy’s resignation, stevens would be the first to formally pursue impeachment. However, with Republicans controlling Congress, the impeachment effort faces important obstacles. The White House dismissed the move as a distraction amid broader political challenges.

Stevens announced her drafting of the impeachment articles on Thursday, just days after Kennedy made a controversial announcement linking the use of Tylenol during pregnancy to autism. The Michigan Democrat, who launched her Senate bid earlier this year to replace retiring Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), said she intends to “lead the charge to remove him from office.”
“RFK Jr. is making our country less safe and making healthcare less affordable and accessible for Michiganders,” Stevens wrote in a press release. “His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories, and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless, and dangerous.”

“Enough is enough – we need leaders who put science over chaos, facts over lies, and people over politics, which is why I am announcing today that I have begun drafting articles of impeachment against Secretary Kennedy,” she continued.
While many Democrats in Congress have called on Kennedy to step down or be fired, Stevens would be the first to file articles of impeachment against the Cabinet secretary. Similar to efforts to impeach President Donald Trump, the resolution would be a long shot with Republicans controlling the House and Senate.
Stevens said the articles of impeachment will focus on his cutting of “lifesaving” research, restricting access to vaccines, spreading conspiracies, lying in his confirmation hearing, and his failure to carry out his duties in administering the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
White House spokesman Kush Desai slammed Stevens’s effort as a distraction.
“Leave it to Democrats to play pointless, stupid political games to distract from the government shutdown looming over America thanks to their incompetence,” Desai told the Washington Examiner.
