Gunman Sought in Shootings of Five Homeless Men in NYC and DC

At least five homeless men have been shot, two fatally, by a gunman in Manhattan and Washington, D.C., according to law enforcement in both cities. 

The most recent victim was discovered dead Sunday evening in Manhattan while a vigil was being held for another victim, The New York Times reported. Police are still investigating whether this murder is connected to the other shootings, which would bring the gunman’s death toll to three. 

The first victim was shot early in the morning on March 3 in Washington, D.C. He survived his injuries, law enforcement stated.

Early in the morning on March 8, the second victim was found shot in Washington, D.C., and he also survived, according to police.

The third shooting occurred early in the morning of March 9, and officials reported finding a man who was deceased after being stabbed and shot multiple times.

The alleged gunman then went to New York City to continue his attacks, police said.

Early in the morning on Saturday, a homeless man was shot in the arm, but survived. Later that afternoon, police said they found a man who was shot in the head and neck. The man succumbed to his injuries, which may have been received earlier that morning. Police stated that witnesses in the area reported “hearing gunshots” around 6:00 a.m.

“Our homeless population is one of our most vulnerable, and an individual praying on them as they sleep is an exceptionally heinous crime. We will use every tool, every technique and every partner to bring the killer to justice,” NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said.

The D.C. police department is offering up to $25,000 to anyone who can identify the gunman, and the ATF Washington Field Division is offering another $20,000 reward.
