Greta Thunberg’s flotilla to Gaza turns back due to stormy conditions
A flotilla carrying Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and other volunteers, including actor Liam Cunningham, set out from Barcelona as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla mission to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, the voyage was soon aborted due to unsafe weather conditions with strong Mediterranean winds exceeding 30 knots. The organizers decided to prioritize the safety of all participants and avoid complications with the small ships. No new date for departure has been announced. This mission follows an earlier unsuccessful attempt by Thunberg to reach Gaza, which ended with her deportation from israel. Thunberg is widely known for her progressive activism, especially on climate change issues.
Greta Thunberg’s flotilla to Gaza turns back due to stormy conditions
A ship carrying activist Greta Thunberg and others to Gaza to deliver aid turned around shortly after departure, citing “unsafe weather conditions.”
Thunberg sought to travel from Barcelona as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a group of vessels from multiple countries seeking to provide aid to Gaza. Actor Liam Cunningham, best known for his role in Game of Thrones, was among the volunteers joining this expedition.
However, the voyage was short-lived, as the flotilla returned to avoid “risking complications” with the small ships amid the weather.
“Facing over 30 knot winds and the unpredictable nature of the Mediterranean, we made this decision to prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants and to safeguard the success of our mission,” Global Sumud Flotilla posted on X.

No new date was given for the resumption of the voyage.
Thunberg’s first attempt to enter Gaza this year ended with her and two others being deported from Israel, with nine others refusing deportation. President Donald Trump said his “primary recommendation” for the leftist activist is “anger management” classes. Thunberg is best known for her progressive activism demanding action on climate change.
