Greg Abbott used $120M in taxpayer funds to transport migrants to Democratic cities
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s “Operation Lone Star” Costs Over $124 Million, Busses Migrants to Sanctuary Cities
Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s controversial initiative, known as “Operation Lone Star,” has been making headlines as it transports migrants to sanctuary cities predominantly run by Democrats. However, this operation has come at a hefty price, with Texas footing a bill of over $124 million in less than two years.
According to documents obtained by news outlet Nexstar, the total cost of the operation was revealed as of January 10. Abbott has been sending migrants to sanctuary cities such as Washington, D.C., New York City, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Chicago. Since April 2022, a staggering 102,400 migrants have been transported in 2,245 buses.
In response to the increasing influx of migrants crossing the southern border, Abbott recently expanded the list of sanctuary cities to include Denver and Los Angeles in 2023. Migrants willingly board these buses, with some claiming they were enticed by gift cards.
It is worth noting that approximately 99.6% of the funding for “Operation Lone Star” comes from taxpayers’ money. Additionally, the government actively seeks donations specifically designated for this program, and as of December, private donations had reached $460,196.
Since its inception in March 2021, “Operation Lone Star” has resulted in a staggering 497,600 apprehensions of illegal migrants. Among them, 39,000 individuals were arrested, with 35,200 facing felony charges.
