Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said he will not be bringing back coronavirus restrictions in his state, providing Floridians with the right to choose. During a press conference at a Cape Coral restaurant on Friday, DeSantis announced an executive order to prohibit school districts from imposing mask mandates.

He started the conference by assuring all in attendance Florida wouldn’t have any new mandates, regardless of what he called a “movement” to restrict the American people. “What we’ve tried to do in Florida is not try to play off fears, not try to ratchet up hysteria,” said DeSantis. He added people should be able to make decisions “that are best for them.”

DeSantis was joined by parents and teachers who saw first-hand the negative effects of last year’s lockdown restrictions and shared how their children and students were affected. The governor went on to proclaim the corporate media has provided improper context on the current gravity of the virus, and added no amount of fake news coverage would bring about lockdowns in Florida as his administration continues to “follow the science.”
