GOP Senator: I’ll support Trump in the primary, but he should withdraw as he’ll lose to Biden.

Sen. Bill Cassidy Suggests ⁤Trump Should ‌Drop Out of Race

During a⁣ recent ⁤interview, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) made some interesting remarks about former President Donald‍ Trump and the upcoming general election. ⁢While ⁤Cassidy stated that he would vote for Trump if he wins the Republican Party presidential primary,⁣ he also expressed concerns about Trump’s chances against President Joe Biden.

Cassidy’s comments were made during an ⁤appearance on ⁢CNN’s “State‌ of the Union” on ⁢Sunday.‍ This comes⁤ after Trump faced⁤ criticism ⁣ for urging other⁢ Republican candidates to drop out and support him, despite the fact that primary voting is still months⁣ away and no primary debates⁢ have taken place.

One⁣ of Cassidy’s main ‍points was that Trump is facing‌ 91 felony counts, with some of the ⁢strongest evidence ‍coming from‍ Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into his handling of classified documents. Cassidy mentioned that there is⁤ even a tape recording of Trump discussing the matter, which could potentially lead to a⁤ conviction.

“If that is proven, then we may have a candidate for president who has been ‍convicted of a crime,”⁢ Cassidy stated. “I‍ think⁣ Joe Biden needs to⁣ be replaced, but I don’t think Americans will ⁤vote ‌for someone who’s been convicted. So, I’m just very sorry about how all this is playing out.”

When⁤ asked if he ‌believes Trump should drop out of the race, Cassidy responded,‌ “I think so. But, obviously, that’s up to him. I mean, you’re ⁤just asking me‌ my opinion.”

“But he will lose to Joe Biden, if you look at⁢ the current polls,” Cassidy continued. “I’m a‍ Republican. I think any ⁣Republican on that stage in Milwaukee will do a better job‌ than Joe⁣ Biden. And so I want one of them to win. ⁣If former President Trump ends up getting the nomination, but cannot win⁤ a general, that means we will have four more years of policies which have led to very high inflation, to a loss of purchasing power for the average American equivalent to $10,000, and to many other ⁣things which I⁤ think have been deleterious to ‌our country’s future.”

When asked if he would vote for a Democrat over Trump if Trump wins the nomination, Cassidy firmly stated, “I’m going ‌to vote for a Republican.”
