GOP Chair Outlines Mayorkas Impeachment Strategy
House Republicans Plan to Impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas
A top House Republican revealed on Sunday the strategy for moving forward with articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas early next year. The impeachment proceedings will focus on Mayorkas’ handling of the border crisis.
Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) announced on “Sunday Morning Futures” that his committee will hold a series of hearings in January after the end-of-the-year holiday break. Green emphasized the need for Mayorkas to be removed from his position, stating that he has neglected his duties, broken laws passed by Congress, and lied to Congress.
The chairman highlighted the committee’s methodical approach to the investigation, which was announced in early June. The committee has been balancing the desires of some GOP members who want to pursue Mayorkas’ ouster through ”regular order” and other Republicans who want an immediate vote on impeachment.
“We’re going to have about three or four hearings in January, and then we’re going to mark up the impeachment articles that have been written,” Green explained.

Last month, eight Republicans joined with all voting Democrats to approve a motion to refer Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s impeachment resolution to the homeland security panel. The resolution accused Mayorkas of “high crimes and misdemeanors” for his failure to maintain border security.

Green explained that there are several members rushing to bring impeachment articles to the floor without due process, which is why some of the eight Republicans voted against the motion. He assured that the committee has been conducting a thorough investigation for several months and will conclude it this month before proceeding with the impeachment in January.
Democrats have criticized the impeachment efforts as a “political stunt,” while also advocating for discussions on border security and immigration reforms. The Department of Homeland Security has dismissed the impeachment attempts as “reckless charades” by congressional Republicans.
When asked if House Republicans will move to impeach Mayorkas in January, Green pointed out that it was the Democrats who referred Greene’s impeachment resolution to his committee, giving them the authority to proceed.
What role will the upcoming series of hearings in January play in the investigation into Mayorkas’ actions and decisions, and how will they shape future border security policies and leadership within the Department of Homeland Security

The decision to begin impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas comes in response to concerns over his handling of the border crisis. House Republicans are pushing for his removal, asserting that Mayorkas has neglected his responsibilities, violated laws set by Congress, and provided false information to Congress.
Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green, a Republican from Tennessee, confirmed this strategy during a recent interview on “Sunday Morning Futures.” He outlined the committee’s plan to conduct a series of hearings in January before drafting articles of impeachment.
This move by House Republicans reflects their determination to address the contentious and complex issue of border security. They argue that Mayorkas has failed in his duty to effectively manage the border crisis, leading to an escalation of illegal immigration and growing concerns about national security.
Green further emphasized the need for Mayorkas’ removal, emphasizing that his alleged misconduct and dereliction of duty cannot be overlooked. The upcoming hearings will provide a platform for further investigation into Mayorkas’ actions and decisions, ensuring a thorough examination of his performance as Homeland Security Secretary.
While some Republicans have advocated for an immediate vote on impeachment, the committee has chosen to take a meticulous approach to the proceedings. By adhering to the principles of “regular order,” the committee aims to ensure a fair and comprehensive examination of the evidence before proceeding with the drafting of impeachment articles.
The decision to impeach a high-ranking government official such as the Homeland Security Secretary is a significant step that underscores the gravity of the concerns raised by House Republicans. It signifies their commitment to accountability and the upholding of the rule of law.
The border crisis remains a contentious issue in American politics, with differing perspectives on how best to address the challenges it presents. House Republicans’ decision to impeach Mayorkas reflects their belief that a change in leadership is necessary to effectively tackle the border crisis and protect national security.
As the series of hearings is scheduled to begin in January, the nation will be watching closely as the evidence is presented and deliberations take place. The outcome of these proceedings will have far-reaching implications for the Biden administration’s immigration policies and the broader national debate on border security.
Ultimately, the decision to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas rests on the House Republicans’ belief that his actions and performance warrant such drastic measures. The upcoming hearings will provide an opportunity for a thorough investigation and will shape the future trajectory of border security policies and leadership within the Department of Homeland Security.
