China’s Yin Ruoning Claims First Major Title at Women’s PGA Championship
In an impressive display of skill, Yin Ruoning emerged victorious at the Women’s PGA Championship held at Baltusrol Golf Club. With a flawless final round that included four birdies, Yin secured her first major title. Despite starting the day three strokes behind the leader, Yin’s determination and precision paid off.
Yuka Saso of Japan finished just one stroke behind Yin, securing second place. However, a bogey on the par-three 16th hindered her otherwise flawless final round. Yin, at the age of 20, became only the second Chinese woman to win a golf major, adding to her previous victory at the DIO Implant LA Open earlier this year.
Throughout the tournament, Yin showcased her exceptional ball-striking skills and maintained her composure even during a mid-round rain delay. Despite a few setbacks in the second round, Yin’s performance remained strong, hitting every green and only missing six in four days.
Reflecting on her victory, Yin said, “For the last couple of days, my ball-striking was perfect. I only missed, I think, six greens in four days. Before today’s round, I just told my physio that my goal for today was just no three-putt. I don’t care if I’m winning or not, just no three-putt. I did it, too.”
While Yin celebrated her win with modesty, she became emotional during the trophy ceremony as she expressed gratitude to her parents for their unwavering support.
Spain’s Carlota Ciganda also delivered an outstanding performance, carding a seven-under par 64 and securing a tie for third place with Anna Nordqvist of Sweden, Megan Khang of the United States, Lin Xiyu of China, and Stephanie Meadow of Northern Ireland.
American Rose Zhang, who recently made her professional debut on the LPGA Tour, finished tied for eighth place in her first major as a professional, continuing her impressive year.
It has been an incredible week filled with remarkable achievements in the world of golf. Congratulations to Yin Ruoning on her well-deserved victory!
