Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has boldly declared that former President Donald Trump’s victory in the Iowa caucuses has solidified his position as the Republican Party’s nominee for the 2024 election. Trump dominated the competition, securing 51% of the vote and leaving his fellow Republican opponents in the dust.
“He’s the nominee,” Gingrich confidently stated on Fox News’s Hannity. “Get over it. He is the nominee. He’s going to win the nomination. The news media doesn’t want to say that because they need to somehow hype ‘please watch us while we go through this charade.’ There is no candidacy for No. 2.”
Gingrich’s prediction comes as no surprise, as he had previously foreseen Trump’s triumph in the Iowa caucuses and his eventual nomination before the end of February. According to Gingrich, Trump’s unwavering support stems from his role as a leader of a movement aimed at reclaiming power from the establishment.
“And that’s why every time he is attacked by the judiciary, every time he’s attacked by the news media, he gets stronger because people go, ’Yep, that’s what I thought. That’s exactly what the corrupt people will do,'” Gingrich explained.
While Trump emerged victorious in Iowa, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida secured second place with 21.2% of the vote, closely followed by former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley with 19.1%. Billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, who came in fourth with 7.7%, suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump.
The next caucuses will take place on January 23rd in New Hampshire, where both Haley and DeSantis will challenge Trump. Governor Chris Sununu of New Hampshire has already endorsed Haley, setting the stage for an intense battle.
