Kellen Curry, George Santos’ opponent, raises $200k in fundraising quarter.

A Republican Challenger Raises Over $200,000 in First Quarter

A Republican challenger has emerged to take on indicted Rep. George Santos (R-NY), and their campaign is off to a strong start. In just the second quarter of the year, the candidate, Kellen Curry, an Afghanistan Veteran and former vice president at J.P. Morgan, has managed to raise over $200,000 from more than 500 donors. This impressive fundraising effort showcases the candidate’s determination and support from the community.

Aiming for Victory

“We knew we had to demonstrate strength right out of the gate,” Curry stated proudly. “I am humbled by the hundreds of people who have contributed to our campaign, bringing us closer to our ultimate goal of winning this race and serving the people.”

Meanwhile, Santos finds himself in a difficult position financially. According to Federal Election Commission records, he only has $25,096 on hand as of April 1. This stark contrast in funding highlights the growing momentum behind Curry’s campaign.

Charges and Controversy Surrounding Santos

Santos is currently facing serious federal charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and making false statements to the House of Representatives. Despite pleading not guilty, his reputation has been tarnished, and even Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has distanced himself from Santos, stating that he will not support his reelection.

House Democrats have also taken action, attempting to force a vote on a resolution to expel Santos from the House. Although the resolution was tabled, it has been referred to the House Ethics Committee for further investigation.

Ethics Committee’s Inquiries

The Ethics Committee has been actively investigating Santos, issuing over 30 subpoenas and more than 40 voluntary requests for information. In a rare statement, the committee’s chairman and ranking member acknowledged the risks associated with dual investigations and assured that they are in communication with the Department of Justice to safeguard the integrity of the House.

As the race heats up and the investigations continue, Curry’s strong fundraising efforts and commitment to serving the people make him a formidable challenger to Santos.
