‘Gay, Gay, Gay, Gay’: Mark Hamill’s Infantile Response To Florida Law Protecting 5-Year-Olds

On Tuesday, actor Mark Hamill, famed for playing the iconic Luke Skywalker in Stars Wars films, delivered what he thought was an eloquent speech bashing the Florida “Parental Rights In Education” law that has been deliberately and insidiously miss-nicknamed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, a bill that, in truth, bars schools from discussing sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade classrooms and never mentions the word “gay” anywhere.

The silver-tongued Hamill tweeted one word almost 70 times, like this:

Hamill’s one word diatribe was mocked by conservatives:

Podcast host Dave Rubin: “A strange part of growing up is watching your childhood heroes become bats*** bananas lunatics.”

National Review’s Dan McLaughlin: “oh no he let Lucas write his dialogue again.”

The Washington Examiner’s Christopher Tremoglie: “Tell me you didn’t read the bill and listened to lies and propaganda without telling me you didn’t read the bill and listened to lies and propaganda.”

The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro: “So I take it you wish to indoctrinate small children into gender and sexual ideology. Because that’s the only reason you’re parroting idiotic propaganda.”

In 2016, after the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Hamill said that Luke Skywalker could be gay.

The film’s director, J.J. Abrams told The Daily Beast, “When I talk about inclusivity it’s not excluding gay characters, it’s about inclusivity. So of course.” “

“I would love it,” he said. “To me, the fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility. So it seems insanely narrow-minded and counter-intuitive to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.”

According to the Daily Mail, Hamill said in an interview, “‘Fans are writing and asking all these questions: ‘I’m bullied in school… I’m afraid to come out.’ They say to me: ‘Could Luke be gay?’”

He continued, “I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer. If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.”

Hamill has an apparent penchant for weighing in when Southern states pass conservative laws; in March 2021, after Georgia passed a law banning abortion following the detection of a fetal heartbeat, Hamill cheered those who supported a boycott of the state:

In March 2019, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) hilariously used images from the Star Wars series to trash the “Green New Deal” championed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her allies, including an image of Luke Skywalker atop a tauntaun on the ice planet Hoth in “The Empire Strikes Back.” Lee quipped, “Not only are tauntauns carbon-neutral, but according to one report ‘a long time ago’ and ‘far, far away,’ they may even be fully recyclable for their warmth on especially cold nights.”

That prompted Hamill to snipe, “I was foolish to think this was photoshopped. Had I recognized that this guy was a Republican, I would have instantly realized this was his argument against Global Warming. #CongressSmellsBadOnTheInside.”

Asked the next day if he saw Lee’s presentation, Hamill tweeted, “I did see that crap. Don’t worry about it! I’m using an oversized photo of @SenMikeLee as a prop to push my #MAGA (#MoronsAlwaysGaslightAmericans) #TrustTheScientists agenda. #ClimateChange.”

In November 2018, Hamill lauded the hard-Left Democratic women comprising “The Squad,” including Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley, tweeting, “For centuries, men have had their chance to rule government with middling-to-poor results. Who’s ready to let women take charge completely? Just women. I know I am.”
