The Newsom camp also claimed Hannity broke agreed-upon debate rules by showing the television audience on-screen graphics.

Casey DeSantis, the governor’s wife and political adviser, was seen speaking with her husband during an intermission, despite the alleged rule against receiving advice. Politico reported that a group of DeSantis aides gathered near a bathroom, leading Newsom’s aide to claim that Casey was ready to coach her husband during his supposed bathroom break. However, the Newsom team insisted that their candidate followed the rules and did not leave the podium.
Furthermore, Newsom’s staff accused DeSantis of violating a supposed rule that only allowed the governors to bring a pen and pad of paper onstage. DeSantis surprised everyone by displaying a map of San Francisco showing locations where human feces had been found. He also showed images from a controversial book available in California schools called “Gender Queer.”
