Following McCarthy’s removal, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced their bids for speaker, with other Republicans in the conference also considering running. A candidate forum is scheduled for October 10, and a House floor vote for the new speaker is planned for October 11. Scalise and Jordan have been gaining endorsements from their House colleagues as the candidate forum approaches.
