A Muslim Man’s Shocking Response to Riots in France

Amid the ongoing riots in France, a Muslim man gave a shocking answer in a now-viral man-on-the-street interview. He boldly declared that it is now their “turn” to colonize a nation they perceive as racist.

Since June 27, thousands of people have taken to the streets in protest after a 17-year-old was shot and killed by a police officer. Muslim immigrants and critics worldwide, including the U.N., have blamed these riots on “institutional racism” in France. In an interview with Ezra Levant, a man named Mohammed painted a frightening picture of Muslim resentment within the European nation.

When asked why Muslim immigrants would flood a country they consider racist, Mohammed responded, “They colonized us for 132 years and now it’s our turn to come here — and how can I explain it — they colonized us for 132 years, and now we will colonize them for life, until death, until the end of time.”

With Marseille, France being recently filled with riots for nearly a week following a fatal police shooting of a Muslim teenager, Ezra went and spoke to members of the Muslim community.

It is unclear which 132-year period Mohammed referred to, although there were conflicts between French soldiers and the West African Kingdom of Dahomey in 1890, and the French government later signed treaties with African leaders allowing annexation of large parts of the Western Sudan.

According to interior ministry figures, there have been 3,486 arrests and an estimated 1,105 buildings set on fire or damaged during the riots in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and other major cities. Additionally, 5,892 vehicles have been burned, causing extensive damage to businesses, which have been looted and set ablaze, with estimates of the total cost exceeding billion.

The teenager killed by police, identified as Nahel M., was stopped in the Paris suburb of Nanterre after driving in the bus lane during a traffic jam. When he refused to provide a license and attempted to drive away, the officer shot him in the left arm and chest. The Nanterre public prosecutor stated that the officer feared the teenager would initiate a car chase and harm others. Nahel M. had a history of ignoring traffic stops, according to the police.

The U.N. human rights office spokeswoman, Ravina Shamdasani, expressed concern over the killing of a 17-year-old of North African descent by police in France, calling for a serious examination of racism and discrimination within law enforcement.

Interactions between the largely Islamic migrant community and the police in France have sparked riots on multiple occasions in the past. Sky News reports that riots erupted in the Lyon suburb of Vaulx-en-Velin in 1979 after the arrest of a young North African individual. Similar incidents occurred at least 11 times between 1991 and 2017.
