Former Patriots, Ravens, Texans QB Dies at Age 35

Former University of Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, who went on to play for New England, Houston, and Baltimore during five seasons in the NFL, has tragically passed away at the age of 35.

Mallett’s death was the result of an apparent drowning, according to the Okaloosa County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office.

Mallett, a football coach at White Hall High School in his native Arkansas, was also confirmed to have passed away by the school district in a post on its website on Tuesday.

Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek expressed his condolences, stating that the university had lost an incredibly special person.

Yurachek further expressed his condolences on Twitter, stating that his thoughts and prayers were with Mallett’s family, friends, and teammates.

Mallett began his college career at the University of Michigan before transferring to Arkansas. He had an impressive college career, passing for 7,493 yards and 62 touchdowns in two seasons with the Razorbacks.

In the 2011 NFL draft, Mallett was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round. He went on to play for the Patriots, Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens, completing 190 of his 345 attempts for 1,835 yards and nine touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

New England coach Bill Belichick expressed his deep sadness at Mallett’s passing, stating that his thoughts and prayers were with his family and the many people whose lives he touched.

Mallett made a significant impact during his time with the Texans and Ravens, earning the respect and admiration of his teammates and coaches.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh expressed his condolences on Twitter, stating that Mallett was a part of their team and would always be remembered for his love for his teammates and his passion for the game.

Mallett’s impact extended beyond the football field, as he was known for his kindness and dedication to his teammates. His first career touchdown pass in the NFL was a memorable moment, as he connected with defensive end J.J. Watt for a 2-yard score.

Watt expressed his sorrow on Twitter, stating that it was horrible news to hear about Mallett’s passing and that he was gone way too soon.
